The Harvard School of Public Health has, in a study on economic losses due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), estimated that the economic burden of lifestyle diseases for India will be close to $ 6.2 trillion for the period 2012-30, a figure that is equivalent to nearly nine times the total health expenditure during the previous 19 years of $710 billion.

In view of the alarming rise in lifestyle diseases, corporates are promoting wellness as an essential choice of an employee to lead a healthy life. Many organizations have jumped on to the wellness bandwagon and have launched active wellness programs for their employees. Annual health check-ups, health lectures, access to gyms, fitness centers, spas, yoga and meditation sessions are offered by most employers today.

The Shortcomings:

The wellness programs originated with annual health check-ups and organizational health centers which are also a part of the manufacturing industry. With increased density of medical facilities and decreased costs, these are of no more interest to the employees, as they do not see it as a ‘value added benefit’ anymore and as a result, don’t relate to corporate India’s current wellness strategy.

Moreover as international boundaries collapse and global exposure becomes a norm, employees are well aware of popular trends on wellness and expect to have those even here at their doorsteps. But, our corporates haven’t felt the pinch with their healthcare costs so far. As a result, action around preventive healthcare in true sense is yet to get evolved and is limited to a diagnostic test or a lecture on awareness.

Same time, organizations often go for programs which offer similar set of services to each employee. The truth is that everyone in the organization doesn’t need to be counseled against similar risks. Moreover, the claims data highlight the health risk of only 3-5 per cent of the population that has undergone a hospitalization, which isn’t representative of the entire organization at all.

AllizHealth Approach: Health & Wellness Portal

In order to address the above gaps, AllizHealth looks to provide corporates with various technology driven solutions which can help figure individual employees health risks better and  introduce an element of personalized care as part of overall corporate wellness strategy. We understand that in a world of gamificaiton and where median age of the working population is around 26, traditional methods of annual health check-ups and lectures are passé. Employees are now looking for complete freedom on what they will use, how they will use it & when.

So, to make these initiatives more meaningful and engage employees actively, we provide a comprehensive Corporate Health and Wellness portal along with an automated employee Health Risk Assessment tool.

The Health and Wellness Portal consists of three different components:

  • Employee Health Risk Assessment: Based on a series of questions related to personal blog1and family health, social support, lifestyle and dependencies, the HRA tool helps figure individual employees health risks and concerns. Post HRA, every employee receives a customized report on their health status along with recommendations to mitigate any risk.
  • Employee Personal Health Record (PHR):  As part of the portal, Employees have access to a PHR to store/share/access health information more efficiently. They can build self and family health profiles, track various health parameters and connect with healthcare providers online.
  • Employer Portal: Employers have access to a portal, to view real time, prevailing health trends in the company. The portal would help figure areas of high risk, filter employees based on conditions and demography, reach out to employees on various preventive care messages and engage them with innovative programs (health quizzes, cross words, rewards programs etc.).



Apart from involving employees in a much more intuitive way, AllizHealth’s technology based approach helps provide insights into the root causes like lifestyle rather than short-term acute illnesses.  It also helps identify and address each individual employee’s health concerns and not focus on a “one size fits all” approach.

Unlike healthcare providers and TPA’s who restrict themselves to just assessing the health of an employee, AllizHealth, assesses, analyses and provides employees resources to mitigate their health risks.

On corporate side, the health portal and tracking would help the organization to baseline and then improve their health profile over a period of time. It would help figure ROI’s on these initiatives better.
